Album Review: 2 Chainz, B.O.A.T.S. 2: Me Time

Yesterday (Sept. 10, 2013) 2 Chainz released his long anticipated follow-up to “Based On A Tru Story” with “B.O.A.T.S. 2: Me Time.”

In an interview with REVOLT TV, earlier this year, 2 Chainz said his sophomore album will show growth from his previous works. 2 Chainz’ statement holds true on songs like “U Da Realist” where the Atlanta Ga., rapper veers away from superficial lyrics and raps about the loss of a close friend. Yes, 2 Chainz did grow as an artists content wise but it was not very much. The majority of 2 Chainz’ lyrics on the album aren’t anything new to his fans. Money, sex and drugs are all are all common themes throughout the album.

There is a wide range of featured artists on “B.O.A.T.S. 2” including Pharrell Williams, Fergie, Mase and former Playaz Circle group member Dolla Boy. Each artists was hit-or-miss. Some artist brought the best out of the track they were featured on while others were a waist of space on the album.

The production was B.O.A.T.S. 2’s strong point but event that had its weak moments. The majority of the album is filled the with club-banging-beats you would expect from 2 Chainz while tracks like “Live and Learn” put the listener to sleep.

Overall B.O.A.T.S. 2 is ‘ok’ but definitely not great. If you were already a fan of 2 Chainz you before you listened to “B.O.A.T.S. 2” you will more than likely appreciate this album. If you are not a fan of 2 Chainz, “B.O.A.T.S. 2” will only add-on to your hatred for the artists formally known as “Tity Boi.”

Overall Rating: C-
